One Havaianas Staff: One Size Only

My boyfriend and I met my dear father last Thursday at Robinson’s Place Manila. The day was just a regular day for me though it was my birthday (can’t believe I turned a year older again!) Nothing really special happened, it was just my father wanted to meet my “security guard”. After my father apologized because he needed to take his rest due to high blood, my boyfriend and I lingered some more time at Starbucks to have our coffee (should I say juice) talk.

But before this whole Starbucks scene, my boyfriend bought me a gift. Actually, I asked him to give me a pair of Havaianas. I guess he really can’t decided what design he would give me so when we learned that the newly renovated Robinson’s Place Manila houses an All Flip-Flops store (Havaianas dealer), we rushed in.

I saw this simple blue Havaianas which I really liked. I have this history that everytime I would like to buy Havaianas, there is no available size for me. So this blue Havaianas was size 33-34. I needed a size 35-36, so I asked one of the staff if there was a size 35-36 of the slippers. And his (I think it should be a she, no offense to gay people) answer got into my nerves and really irritated me.

ME: Meron pa bang size 35-36 nito? (Do you still have size 35-36?)

STAFF (with one eyebrow arched a little): Wala eh. One size lang yan lahat. (None. One size only.)

ME: One size lang? Kelan pa nangyari na one size lang ang lahat ng paa ng tao sa mundo? (One size only? When did it happen that the feet of all the people in the world has one size?)

STAFF (a little surprised with the answer): Ay sorry po, wala na pong size 35-36 nyang design na yan. (Sorry, no more stocks for 35-36.)

ME: Yon ang sagot, hindi yung one size lang. Ano un? One size fits all? (That’s the answer.)

Luckily, my boyfriend (whose also a warfreak) didn’t hear the conversation or the staff would be shaken.

I ended up buying a cute lavender-colored Havainas slim.

Anyways, I still had a Happy Birthday then.

Smelly Person During the UAAP Opening Games

The third and final misadventure my mom, my boyfriend and I experienced during the opening games of the UAAP Season 71.

My mom decided not to watch the opening ceremonies anymore, because knowing UP, they would try to make their production numbers more fabulous than the performance of UST last year.

We went up to UST’s gallery and guess, it was only the second quarter of the first game between FEU and Adamson, meaning, no seats pa. So no choice, but to seat on the left side of the aisle.

While seating, my boyfriend whispered something like, “Ang asim ng katabi mong lalaki.” I was like, “Shhh…di na nga ako nagre-react eh.” He just smiled. Actually, that student is a UST student.

Then, when one of the cheerleaders of Adamson prepared for the halftime, my mom told me to sit on the right side of the aisle so we would not block the way. So we obliged.

Then, this cute student of Adamson offered my mom the seat and she was thankful for the seat. So to show her appreciation, she cheered for Adamson though she knew they had a slim chance of winning against FEU.

When some of the Adamson students started vacating their seats, Jasper and I were able to seat. He leaned on and asked my mom, “Kaya po kayo lumipat kasi nabahuan kayo dun kay baboy?”

My mom said, “Di na nga ako nagpahalata eh.”

REMINDER: I’m also from UST, ok?

FAB Drink Commercial kuno….

Here’s the other misadventure that I was talking about during my previous post. Actually, the 3rd misadventure will come in my next post.

My mom (yes, my mother!), my boyfriend and I decided not to watch the opening ceremonies of the UAAP, so wander around the Coliseum. Actually, I already saw this group of people with their camera and microphone interviewing someone. I didn’t pay attention to them. My mom saw the yellow balloons used when cheering the GO USTe! So she told me to get some balloons.

We were on our way to the balloons when the man holding a microphone cut us and asked my mom for an interview. My mom was quick to decline for the interview and much quicker pointing me to be interviewed. So the man wasted no time convincing me to do the interview. He said I would be asked: 1. What makes your school fab? and 2. What can you say about your school spirit?

My mom pinched me and just say yes, and my loving boyfriend was pushing me to agree (of course, with his evil grin), so I gave in.

I should be denying I’m from UST (hehe, playing denial queen), but my T-shirt screams “Little Miss Growling Tiger”, so no choice.

I think I answered the questions well.

Now, I am monitoring the UAAP on Studio 23 to see that interview. Honestly, I don’t want to see that commercial because I’m not really telegenic. If someone sees that commercial, please just turn off your TV.

Long Overdue Post: Getting UAAP tickets can be fun with a non-UAAP student/alumnus

Actually, this post is long overdue. But as they say, better late than never.

Last July 5, my boyfriend and I decided to watch the opening games of the popular college sports association here in the Philippines, which is the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Since I asked him to come with me and beat the long lines for the ticket, I decided to fetch him at the office at 7am (he works in the graveyard shift by the way).

We were able to go out of the office at 7:45am because the people
in the morning shift came in late.

Luckily, we were able to arrive early, since the line for the ticket is still somehow short (considering the tremendous number of students and alumni who wanted to get in for the opening ceremonies and games).

When we were near the ticket booth, the events organizers were checking ID’s. Shoot! STUDENT ID’s. I was nervous because it looks like I wasted our time and energy falling in line, yet, we couldn’t get tickets.

We need to pass two groups of people: the events marshall who checks the students’ ID’s and of course, the people dispensing the tickets, who happens to check again student ID’s

For the events marshall, at first, he was hesitant to let us go because we were alumni already. I told him that I really came very early and that was the only game that I could watch due to my rotating rest days. After some puppy face and begging, he let us in, together with another girl and boy who also had no ID’s.

In the ticket booth, the cashiers were really strict. NO STUDENT ID, no ticket. When it was my turn to buy the ticket, I told her two upper B. She was about to give me the tickets when she asked my ID. I told her I didn’t have my ID, since last year’s ticket proceedings were a bit loose. After a short discussion, I told her that I don’t have my new ID, but my old ID. She said, it’s okay and she looked at it and asked me if I’m still studying. I just said yes, and my new ID’s still in the process. She gave me the two tickets that I needed.

For my boyfriend, he was not an alumnus of a UAAP school. I was nervous also because we need 3 tickets for the game because there is a third wheel coming with us. He only needed to buy 1 ticket for the third wheel.  So when it was his turn to buy the ticket, the cashier asked for his ID. And here’s their exact dialogue:

Jasper: Isang upper B.

Cashier: Ito po, sir, ID po? (Jasper handed his San Beda ID.) Bakit Beda ito?

Jasper: Taga-UST girlfriend ko, sinamahan ko lang.

Cashier: Ok (smiles).

Hahaha!

Sadly, we lost the game, but it was fun. Another misadventure during this opening game (now inside the coliseum) will come shortly.
